California Department of Transportation – Stormwater Filter Media Replacement for SR73 Tollroad

ProjectLine assisted with media replacement planning for existing 1500 SF sand filter serving stormwater Basin 1194R of SR-73, located in Irvine. Replacement media included 6-inches of activated alumina (AA), 12-inches of silica sand, and geotextile fabric. Preconditioned AA media was shipped to site in supersacks, and placed media was washed, with testing of wash water prior to putting filter on-line. Excavated sand media was TCLP tested to determine appropriate waste disposal, and wash water was vacuumed from downstream manhole and trucked to permitted disposal facility. The filter is being used to evaluate AA media for treatment of tollroad runoff to adjacent San Diego Creek, which flows into Newport Beach’s Back Bay. ProjectLine was subcontractor to AMEC for the project.​
